Parts that are represented as nodes, referred by the connectionist model. Nodes and networking contributing to a whole, a whole out of the nodes participating. The nodes, the functioning parts. Node the functioning equivalent of the part, the subsystem itself.

Node (in function), the nodes interconnected at a given time, what gives the pattern, as being dynamic, the states instantiated snapshots if the time dimension is regarded as external. What ever lies out of that network made out of these nodes, is not taking into consideration for the instantiation of the pattern. Attributing irreversibility.

Societies themselves prove such a point. The point of non-existence. It is hard to come to terms with it. Its virtuality of non-existence, its virtual non-existence. The new generation born within the frame of the current status and states the societies are, made out of the patterns prevailing, are impossible to unable to think past societies. Past patterns followed and adhered to, virtually non-existent, carried only in the memories of adults who even them suffer the same symptoms. World, societies of human individuals, brain and mind, emotions feelings personality, nature itself all systems on their own behalf, down to the bare-bones, what remains when all that complexity bestowed upon systems, is removed.

New ideas are entering my mind all woven around the conceptualisations of structure, network, connectedness, abstractions and the glue that brings them all together, hotfooting out of the findings of chaos theory, chaos itself. Triggered as I read R.D. Smith's 'Social Structures and Chaos Theory', article in Sociological Research Online.

The use of chaos theory not from the predicting and controlling aspects but as the fundamental, the pillars upon which all emerged, self-organised systems are derived upon. A universality that pervades the realm we call reality and beyond, for any god existing it would have to rely upon chaos to create what has been created.

It therefore surpasses the limits its naming, chaos theory, impose upon it as it is no longer a theory, a tool to be used solely as an instrument of prediction and control, but a powerful way in the 'hands' of the individual to explain the structures created.

Acquiring a force all to its own, a force to be reckoned with, though not a force by itself but that which enables and empowers. Empowered with a force to shake worlds.

Powerful abstractions, revealing the barebones of a system and in my mind, now overwhelmed by the notion that any system whatsoever exists, in our minds or outside our minds, follows suit such type of organisation, upon which the evolution of a system builds upon.

Pre-existing ideas. Pre-existing nodes, in the lattice, the architecture and within that frame of pre-existing ideas, there is still room for more new ideas to emerge. Despite drawing boundaries to already existing ideas, ideas never cease to be created.

Pre-existing notion followed suit by the idea of post-existing necessary to determine the future worlds, the plausible future, the implausible future and what we would never have to be, the impossible futures.

In the same sense, what is, also excluded are past-existing nodes, a return to past worlds, only possible if, by erasing memories, all history, from people's minds something impossible, therefore a return to the past, in the future near or utterly implausible. An impossibility.

The contribution of chaos revealed by bifurcations, bifurcations that lead to new newly-created nodes, to the creation of new nodes, the seed-spawning of new ideas.

Evolution never stops, it is the time-scales that differ, time-scales that can be beyond the lifespans of human individuals and time-scales that can be tiny fractions of such lifespans. The human individual lifespans, somewhere in between.

The paradigm of chaos, and chaos is relentless in its path, sacrilegious, destroying, mind-numbing everything that is built on shaky foundations, annihilating beliefs, lessening their burdens upon minds, leaves people astray and confused but once its passage gone in the meantime exhilarating, absolving as the foundations it lays in its wake are heart-uplifting, solid, strong, a firm grasp on the ground heads in sky, in heavens.

Humanity in a transitional period, civilizations past and gone, failed experiments.

The barebones of every system, from solitons to social groups. Structure, the concept .. conceptualise along these lines .. conceptual entities .. structures or groups .. and the network theory .. the lattice created .. the lattice of the brain .. the lattice of society .. the points, the nodes along which the avenues, the channels would follow suit that will determine patterns and structures.

All these ideas triggered by that paper, is that something new? At my very own level? For me? I have to ponder on this and use the outcome to further elaborate what actually is, this I am contemplating about.

And what is this? Of fundamental proportions .. What? Paradigm? a way of thinking about this. What is this? It is comprised of nodes. It is permeated by connectedness. It reveals patterns. It is made out of patterns. Patterns are created on this. Phases.

.. the paradigm of chaos introduced by chaos theory.

It directs the flow. Flux as it called it. A unit. A module. Something that can be used in all that the world is about. Many instances. A network. It is based on networks. Abstractions. Derived after a lot of abstractions have been effected. Reducing complexity. Removing complexity. Underlying complexity.

Capitalism eschews the initiation of force against any man, by any man or group of men-a fundamental moral principle. Capitalists cannot therefore advocate for peace at any price, or security at the expense of liberty. Individual moral right, is the first fundamental in capitalist philosophy and is reflected in the US Declaration of Independence when Jefferson penned,

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. - That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, - That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”

Capitalists recognize that it is not the right to agree with others that is so crucial to man’s freedom, but it is the right to disagree and to dissent from tyranny in all forms. It is the philosophy of capitalism and its institutions which protect and implement the right of men to disagree that keeps society open to what capitalist’s view as man’s most valuable attribute, his mind.

Freely applying chaotic dynamics to explain the status of the world of people and foreseeing the future of mankind.

Application of chaotic dynamics to understand the global and local attributes currently upheld, expressed as beliefs, political views, social norms, modes of behaviour. New attributes at global and local levels continually form to erode global and local attributes inherited.

New attributes tried and tested at local levels surpass the local boundaries on to lay the fundamentals of the global landscape, paving the inroads to global structure. The fundamental attributes of global structure in turn, influence the attributes allowed at local level, determines the field local trajectories will flow, the attracting basin and further delineate the phase space still to be explored.

Views expressed, on local attributes, global structure. Views expressed provide the momentum that drives the trajectories. One can not expect anything else by agents to act, driven by the local attributes no matter what it drives them forth. Political views, any political views determine the gist of the trajectories followed, developed free to be exercised even if that entails conflict.

Instead of taking hard sides with one or the other of the conflicting factions, their attributes, accepts that all are equally justifiable even despite of any extremities. The extreme views taken by developing trajectories, all in the grand scheme of chaotic dynamics. All within, the allowed by the fundamentals, ground laid out.

Attributes as constants and variables, underlying, overt or hidden, comprising the body of local and global structures. Bifurcations and Liapunov exponents L>1, which entails divergent trajectories and Liapunov exponents L<1, convergent trajectories diverge. Divergence and convergence, their effect on adjacent to and remote to each other trajectories.

Liapunov exponent L>1, trajectories diverge, adjacent trajectories, trajectories of neighbouring agents separate, delineate out of neighbourhoods, from common grounds to distinct parts as their proximity is tested by changing conditions at local level. Conflict as the reason that exacerbates the creation of new trajectories, its potential to split trajectories, to bifurcate and conquer new space, to explore the phase space. To form new attractors or strengthen already existing.

Bifurcation of a trajectory. When trajectories bifurcate develop new structures, assign new attributes to a system. New properties emerge, materialising to appear as newly-formed patterns or modes of behaviour. New norms, rules, habits. Thoughts, ideas, beliefs.

Phase space opened up by newly-formed bifurcations, phase space as yet undiscovered in contradiction to phase space which offers no opportunity for attracting basins to form, no attracting basins formation potential, phase space which have been passed by, by being barren and desolate, phase space that has not got creative potential

Global and local structures, the analogies with the Mandelbrot set, self-similarity at bay, self-similar local structures, and all self-similar to the global structure. The tendency annealing local and global trajectories to culminate towards common grounds, to attracting basins that pull and pool the human individuals acts and deeds. Common standards, the attractors at the far end, for each and every individual upon which the rules, norms, laws, habits that communities, societies are built by, the objectives to seek out in a manner that objectivism the least to be said, attempts to assimilate, towards achieving common standards for all individuals comprising the global structure.

Therefore, objectively oriented societies, for not to succumb subjectiveness to its heel, but to provide fertile grounds for subjectivity to thrive. Woes about global dictatorship juxtaposed against global attributes attained, the flow of information constantly enabling empowered individuals, individuals continually strengthening their self-determination, their resolve to the extent that dictatorship of any kind at local levels is continually, not just questioned but fought against with unabated resolve, renders global dictatorship virtually untenable.

There is no turning back, the fundamentals, the attracting basins have already been set and would not allow it. The global structure, the whole as being more than the sum of its parts, a whole created out of millions of individuals, as more and more engage into its creation, completion as the continuous flow of information becomes exponential, at its exponential stage, a flow of information that battles vigorously against disinformation, enabling individuals to create informed views, which in its entirety is none other than the total of all views held by all the parts contributing to create the whole. The fractal hyperstructure utterly divided into its deepest fractal pocket occupied by one of each and every individual.

And as a whole, goes forth, each to think globally and act locally, the minds that people create become as wholesome as ever. Global attractors, out of which the human attributes are created, build out of contribution, ever increasing contribution. A whole that is truly, out of the contribution of virtually all of its parts.

The triggers of these thoughts

- Motorway traffic swarms.

There is only the need to adhere to, to one and simple rule by motorists, in rush hour traffic in motorways.

Give space of at least two to three cars in front of you, or even, having in mind to accommodate the bigger users of the motorways, the lorry drivers, make sure the space between your car and the one in front of you, is long enough to accommodate the longest vehicle on the road.

Which means that oncoming cars, especially where motorways merge, would manage to integrate into the lanes without breaking speed, without the need for any drivers that seek access to an adjacent lane with thicker traffic flow, to stop in the middle of their lane and cause untold congestion behind them. That ensures that the flow of the motorway goes uninterrupted, changing lanes effortless.

Bullying in the motorways by aggressive drivers that pass their childish behaviour from the playground into the motorways, where the bragging that leads to bully other individuals still survives in their adult life, expressed without any concern for other individuals, in their mode of driving as as they are in, in the motorway they stick right behind the car in front demanding passage at all cost.

But that is not the only reason motorways get clogged up, stacked cars one after the other, trapped into single lanes, cages that hold the flow of the traffic. This tendency can be construed as a result of the same bullying attitudes from a different perspective as by clinging tight with the car in front access is restricted, other cars can get in, attitude of the sort 'what you are more clever than me?'.

Even the attitude of the drivers who want to get into a lane where motorways merge, holding up the traffic flow in the lane, piling up the traffic behind them, content in the thought that they are following up the rules, in total ignorance of what is going on behind them, they think it is appropriate to stop their car in the middle of busy lane, 'begging' from the drivers in the lane he wants access to, creating hazardous situations behind him, in the lane he occupies.

All these would not have happened if all drivers in the motorway would leave ample space for lane changing between them.

This whole attitude muddles the whole issue of the traffic flow in the motorways as the effortless change of lanes is impeded.

Each driver in tune with the other motorway users collaborating instead of competing for the stretch of the road in front of them.

Pandemics, a direct consequence of the profit economic model.

Profit, primary and foremost goal. An incentive of business-as-usual survival, that obliterates the significance of any other concern, commensurate measures, to undo the damage, already being inflicted or bound to get inflicted, seen for entrepreneurs as a hindrance, in their goals for profiting and economic survival. How would anyone expect, for anyone involved in business, to heed on what is necessary, to keep the risks of pandemics at bay? The profit economic model, is short on guarantees, and will always be, for a risk-free implementation, of the humongous task of feeding the world's populations.

If it is not something that comes from within, it would never succeed. The whole global economic system, aspired wholly by the current profit economic model, is such a body constructed out of rules, laws, norms prevalent, a system developed upon, fosters forces within, that constantly clash with what you expect from the system, to provide.

Since the rules adhered to, would not allow it. When the only risk they heed to, is the risk of profits, the depreciation of capital, of money invested, instead of the risk that threatens the well-being of individuals, of the very planet itself.

The world is full of alternative ideas, arrived at, achieved by individuals daily, singly and collectively, and the individuals pursue them in all manners possible and it's inevitable that they will succeed, and the ideas will prevail, its the destiny of humanity, as their force is unstoppable, in whatever way they are measured.

A risk-free sustainable planet, growth to match expectations, in their full potential, as expectations materialise through everyone, for everyone, the world around. World organisations, charities, non-profit, whatever they are called, all try in vain to undo the ills, the profit economic model amply spreads, incessantly, endlessly, wreaking havoc upon the planet and its inhabitants.

Climate change talks, Denmark. Attempting to infuse change from within the current profit economic system, overwhelmed, thwarted already. Fighting an already lost war, against the forces that created the problem, in the first place. Carbon tax measures, marred from within, from the frame that spawned them, doomed from its inception, as it is the product, not of the will of the people but the forces that led them to doom and failure, and aims at anything other but. The forces that their only incentive is, to preserve dominant positions, to hold on to power that money has bestowed upon.

Clashes, revolutions, upheavals? Are not needed, what is needed are the little changes in ideas fostered by all individuals, the kind of ideas that made the end of the apartheid in South Africa and the unification of Germany a reality, the end of the cold war an unavoidable conclusion, what brought people out in Tehran by the millions, spontaneous and overwhelming phenomena that no power acting against, would ever have succeeded to subdue, no matter how insurmountable thought to be.

Thought leaders, if they befit to their calling, focus their attention and energy in what would accelerate the implementation of those changes that the world seeks out, instead of getting entrenched deep within the limits of their profession, exercising the prerogative of the human individual, of what they are, the limiting boundaries each one is restricted by, the allowable perspectives unwinding in forth of everyone, detach themselves from the boundaries of their level, the worlds they are in, into a higher plane, looking things from above, seeing themselves as one of the many individuals in the midst of our societies, and make the most to allow individuals room to think, to change their ideas. Little to tiny changes, inconspicuous, for that matter, incorporated within, ideas, of which there are a-plenty around, gaining ground day-by-day.

A world of ideas, thought leaders, short on thoughts. Do not go deep enough, further deep, so far as to renounce to the world, the profit economic model and assist to eradicate it, from the face of the earth.

What is the point of economists?

"Why did no one see the crisis coming?” Queen Elizabeth asked last year. “A failure of the collective imagination of many bright people” who were all “doing their job properly on its own merit”, was the answer many of those bright people gave in a letter to the Queen last week."

Adiabatic? Explaining the failure.

Adiabatic being ".. a process occurring in a thermally insulated system, so that there is no flow of heat to or from the surroundings." .. thinking being the process occurring, and the flow of heat, represent the flow of thoughts and ideas, thinking insulated from the surroundings.

It occurs by, "..conditions imposed on a process..", the individual sets the thinking process, and at the same time is driven by "..conditions under which the process occurs naturally..", being a natural reaction in every individual.

Chaos. A word describing my endeavor, my goal to comprehend its influence but never being fully touched. Always pussyfooting around but never struck at the heart. Trying hard, examining the effects, the tangible marks, opening inroads but never near. All the thoughts, ideas, concepts amassed did not materialise into something solid about what chaos is. It did not make me feel sure enough to title a post, with that very word.

I have been annoyed often enough when I kept reading about chaos as an unpleasant state, brought out of the minds of the people, referring to as a state to be avoided at all costs, stirred clear of its path, branding it as synonym of mayhem and destruction. I myself was confused as well, as by reading their descriptions, I could not but agree.

Certainly, on and on, I found solace on the thought of the human individual's limited perception. The fallacies that are perpetrated as a result. Along with an unwillingness to learn, either voluntary as a result of an enhanced ego, or involuntary as a result of their working patterns which demand for individuals a great chunk of their day-to-day time, forced into comfort zones, neglecting their chance for personal development.

We have to distinguish chaos drawn out of the testimonies of individuals, laying out their experience of chaos and the chaos which I would call mathematical chaos which nevertheless it is connected to the chaos of objects, objects can be thought of as attractors developed by chaotic processes of mathematical chaos.

Mathematical chaos, as its description entails the use of variables and parametres, that represent the conditions prevalent in the space or time that chaos take place. This conditions are determined by the kind of objects within that specific space and time which ensue interactions, interactions that affect the parametres and variables, as their values change with time and space. It has been called deterministic as it is not random and its course can be determined. Determination can be referred to as purpose.

This passage drew my attention this morning. Its coming, its entrance into my consciousness seemingly random, and I emphasize seemingly, as its connection, minutes after, with thoughts I have been contemplating the past few days ... it seems uncanny.

Even now, as I try to record these thoughts, I let them come by themselves, unbiased, by any considerations external to the thoughts themselves, even, by my very own conscious thoughts. A theme I have mentioned in other posts before, which boils down to ... let my chaotic mind flow ...

Thoughts already in place, hooked on the phrase 'problem determination', to determine the problem, to elucidate what the problem is, before attempting to solve it, to offer solutions. An approach which is recommended, in any discipline individuals are engaged in.

In my mind, I have associated synchronization with what I read in the paper "The History and Status of General Systems Theory", by Ludwig von Bertalanffy. Particularly what is mentioned in page 415.

Organised society is afraid of that all will get loose, imminent destruction of order, total annihilation? I have been intrigued by this exposition titled as Anti-Knowledge and I would like to go through it, and see how my chaotic mind would respond to it.

What is referred to as knowledge and what is knowledge? Are these two things the same? Distinguished between knowledge that has a purpose, a specific goal, differentiated by any other kind of knowledge, whose purpose and use ephemeral, short-lived, as it is portrayed by the tonnes of books, on which they were written, now obsolete and thrown away. Is there knowledge that is not knowledge? What about the paradigm shifts, that the author mentions? Do they not change completely our ways of thinking, and by that knowledge itself? In either on the level of a single individual or collectively for groups of individuals and extrapolated to include the whole of humanity proper? Knowledge which was deemed as knowledge is put aside, sent into oblivion, totally forgotten, never to be looked again, thrown overboard.

I would, after browsing through the website, regard the thoughts conveyed by the author, as products of a chaotic mind, which I regard as a valuable asset in an individual. Record my thoughts as they come, before they fizzle out, a drawback (is it?) of consciousness. In my mind, this is connected with reflective reasoning, mentioned in the paper From simple associations to systematic reasoning, but necessary as, by recording the thoughts, they are instantiated, and as such they provide the ground, from where the spark which will ignite another wave of thoughts will come from.

Unconnected thoughts laid out haphazardly, (well, let's say chaotically) , not daring to pause, to put them in order, for fear of loosing touch with the threads still developing.

It associated, right away, with what I was contemplating about link-node-link chains. So, by saying that a thread is still developing, it means that new links and new nodes are created. Formulated into chains, integrated into threads by contextual cues? The cues being the properties and attributes, each concept, notion or simply a thought drags along, irrelevant to how coherent the thought is? The cues acting as tags, that drag along the rest, of the concept, notion or just thought, and especially (what is more important) their attached properties and attributes? Whether you want it, to happen or not?

So there is an array, to borrow a concept from computing, of 'link-node-link'... What? 'Links'? That each single term in the simple formulation, 'link-node-link', is part of another 'link-node-link', branching out in all possible ways? Attributing it with new dimensions? The thread developing?

Squeeze my mind. Develop the thoughts. In a matter I haven't consider before. A matter however that I find it crucial. Unprepared, but full of thoughts which I need to organise to reach to an answer. My answer.

Certainly there is a stalemate and a real problem. Populations do increase exponentially. But does agricultural produce increase arithmetically? I wonder? Since the time of Malthus, in the 18th century, agricultural produce has increased in unheard of levels of production, that Malthus and his contemporaries could never imagine. I would not attempt to make a comparison in terms of arithmetic or exponential increases since I lack the data necessary to do so, but I only have one thing in my mind. With the current level of the world population size, the world over, agricultural produce suffices to feed it.
And this in my mind provides the answer. That at whatever level population size increases, in whatever age this might be, past or future, agricultural production follows suit, human ingenuity provide and will continue to provide the answer.
Trying to apply Malthus's theories in an isolated way, for one or the other country instead of looking at the problem globally, is misleading to say the least, if not intentionally creating a doom and despair scenario in support for and justify the current trends for accumulation of wealth to a handful of individuals to the detriment of all the rest in humanity.

The logic is that if you share the spoils of economic growth to the masses, ignorant as they are, they will start reproducing like rabbits, hyper-exponential increase in population sizes, so cut their food supply, restrict wages, reduce earnings, tax them to the hilt, let them work from dawn to dusk to make ends meet, (here you have an added bonus as they would have less time to procreate).

Make everything possible, use every trick at your disposal, anything that you can.

Use the media to fill up their lives ... with useless trivial pursuits ... use up the little spare time they have .... drive them towards establishing comfort zones, push them in, isolate one from another, complete alienation ... along the lines of the old colonial british rule, a thousand times tried and tested, the trusty 'divide and conquer'.

Squeeze them as far as you can, use up the monies to alienate one from another, make 'making-more-money' a primary goal in their lives.

Trivialize their lives, their background, their roots, rob them of their dignity, instill in their minds how futile and insignificant the lives they live, are (so they think and they want us to believe), that they are but pawns in a game played by a handful of shrewd and cunning players.

Making the millionaires as the outshining models for every one to pursue, relentlessly, in every waking or not, moment of their lives. The relentless pursuit of making more money their only goal.

The waste of goods and resources a prerogative, a necessity and a supposed privilege of every individual. Turning free will into a wasteful pursuit, meaningless, empty of content.

Bombard them with messages how crucial is their contribution to the state's economic growth, to fight the monster of inflation, that eats up their meager salaries ... confuse the issues .. and continue to apply Malthus's doctrines, as mentioned in 'Europe 1780-1830'‎, book by Franklin Lewis Ford, in page 347, where

"all excess value produced by technical progress and increasing scale of manufacturing being reserved to the entrepreneur and such stockholders as have put up capital in his support."

The Malthusian trap, the continual proliferation of that myth serves one purpose only, to justify the model that promotes the ruthless exploitation of humanity by a handful of individuals, in comparison, holding tight on an illusion of power.

Power, a myth perpetrated and still surviving nowadays, mere figment more than reality itself, as their bearers stand on top of intricately woven but extremely fragile structures, precariously supported on proverbial glass pillars, that a mere flap of a butterfly's wings can trigger a collapse, the ground failing them underneath.

That any improvement in an individual's standard of living would come out of the good will of the millionaires and the like as again one of the thoughts put forward by Malthus states

"In the event, the 'possessing classes' showed themselves disposed, out of a mixture of ...(intentional or unintentional missing line in Google book's snippet search equivalent to ... good will and piety).... to deal back a fraction of the profits, in the form of largesse to schools, hospitals, orphanages and so on."

but he is wrong there too. Anything, since his time in the 18th century human individuals gained, it was not given, it was taken and will continue to be taken as the years go by.

Thomas Malthus, Darwin's and other of their contemporaries ideas of a human individual as prone to

start reproduce like rabbits ... treating the human individual a slave to his animal instincts .... lack the element of reason

do not hold.

Malthus's predictions are wrong. It is not the size of the populations that are the problem but the size of their bellies. An exponential increase of human individuals with oversized bellies.

An increase in girth, more likely.

Malthusian societies? Modern societies determined by bare subsistence wages?

I read in Franklin L. Ford, 'Europe 1780-1830, A General History of Europe' book, first published in 1970, Chapter XIII 'Intellectual Ferment in a Revolutionary Age', Malthus page 346,

"... The implications of his theory for a ruthless young capitalism were none the less apparent. If anything more than subsistence only breeds misery for the mass of mankind, then bare subsistence should determine wages, all excess value produced by technical progress and increasing scale of manufacturing being reserved to the entrepreneur and such stockholders as have put up capital in his support."

Bare subsistence to determine wages? Bare subsistence the criterion that economies is based upon? What human societies, in the world over, are built upon? And based on this criterion the mass of humankind is kept at subsistence levels, as these might fluctuate slightly from decade to decade, a slow linear process, whereas the excess value being reserved for the entrepreneur and such stockholders that put up the capital? An excess value that rises exponentially.

Can this be true? Is it the blueprint that modern societies use to construct themselves? Determine and define the interactions between their individual members? It is mentioned in this website by Gavin Kennedy, that

"... subsistence incomes had remained the lot of the population (the Malthusian trap) for millennia."

A trap by all means. It is generally acknowledged that as the years go by, the rich are getting richer and richer, the gap between low earners and high earners widens.

Franklin L. Ford writes about Thomas Malthus that

"No single writer did more to buttress the forbidding side of this doctrine of economics ruled by egoism and the free play of forces than did the Englishman Thomas Malthus."

and

"In 1798, disgusted by what he considered the vaporizing of men such as Condorcet and William Godwin, author of the utopian 'Social Justice' five years before, Malthus published an 'Essay on Population'".

And as Franklin L. Ford admits,

"This has continued ever since to influence not only economic thought but also the apologetics of imperialism and biological theories of environment and natural selection."

Looking back over the years Malthus influence is widespread in the way modern societies govern themselves, permeating key sectors throughout their structures. It is the way governments and states adhere to. An underlying factor in all the interactions between state authorities and their individual members.

But why did Malthus arrive to that notion?

As Franklin L. Ford, mentions

"Malthus did not seek to spell out any theory of wages of profits. Rather, he thought of himself as a scientific student of demography and, when he urged self-restraint in regard to procreation, as a moralist."

and

"For Malthus, the rationale of population growth, and hence of possible improvement in the masses' standard of living, was as clear as it was discouraging. Given man's capacity for propagation to the absolute limit of numbers supportable by any given level of food supply, the author saw no hope of lifting the race by increasing subsistence. Indeed, he argued, since food production could at the very best increase, generation by generation, in no more than an arithmetic progression -1,2,3,4,5- while population, left to follow its natural tendency, would follow a geometric progression -1,2,4,8,16- the 'improvement of mankind' was an illusion beckoning disaster. The only reason the worst does not happen, he explained, is that natural checks, including famine, pestilence, war and 'vice' (abortion and infanticide) prevent the possible rise in population from being fully realized."

So the fear of over-population? That is what drove Malthus to his notions? Governments and states, following in Malthus' steps, provide additional checks, along with the natural checks, to prevent the rise of populations to unsustainable levels? Doing anything possible, to strengthen the checks even to the point of harboring vice-inducing conditions, such as drug-trafficking, gun-slinging in America, or the vehement opposition against any demands for wage increases with the sole goal of restraining population growth?

Is that one of the ideals of humanity?

The current state of the world determined by individuals trapped in a web which undermines humanity.

In the most unfortunate turn of events in the lives of all individuals, a state which can be classified as schizophrenic, since individuals find themselves trapped in a system that undermines their very nature. A system that destroys everything that is worthwhile in a human individual in favour of returns that are anything else, but beneficial.

Each individual invests a great deal of its resources in the course of its life, resources other than (and more than) material; mental psychological physical resources, only to find out in the end, that the place its investment was put for, sought after, erodes them and diminishes them.

Becomes a turncoat against its own kind, against its very own self. It turns him or her to an individual that seeks to destroy and exterminate other individuals, completely forgetting that other individuals work along the same lines, as hard, to destroy others, the turncoat included.

A capitalist system continuously replenishing its numbers shedding them out, in an all out war against each other. A system that breeds individuals, turning one against another, for crumbs thrown at their plates. States whose primary objective is to sow strife among its citizens. Divide and conquer at its utmost.

A system that is responsible for breeding vultures ready to eat up the guts of other individuals. Of each other. And taken as a whole, humanity, that all 'other individuals' plus self is, devours its own guts.

As, the individual bombarded continuously by talks for profits, economic growth, prosperity, the good of the company, of the corporation, of the state; becomes oblivious of its place in nature, insanely undermines its own (and others) physical, psychological, mental being.

Trapped in a cycle where the monies, he or she so hard are after for, become the noose to hang themselves from. Taking away bit by bit, all that there is value for, what is worth living for; only to end up dried up shells of a man or woman.

This is not a modern trend in capitalism, but what is sick, is that it is allowed to continue on unabated, unchecked. It is intrinsic in capitalism. It is what it was born out of, and fed with, in its nascent steps back in the 18th or so century, as its intellectual elite, its forefathers, the spiritual leaders of young capitalism, have proclaimed.

They had anything short of contempt for humanity, being called the masses, a term that survives our present age and era. Among them, is Thomas Malthus, as it is mentioned in Franklin L. Ford's book, "A General History of Europe, Europe 1780-1830" page 346. As it is claimed in the book

"No single writer did more to buttress the forbidding side of this doctrine of economics ruled by egoism and the free play of forces than did the Englishman Thomas Malthus."

And this doctrine of economics, or as it is mentioned as that of 'classical' economics, is

"Born of generous efforts by eighteenth-century philosophers, notably Adam Smith and the French Physiocrats, to break down artificial, irrational barriers to commercial development and to discover the true springs of productivity, it was in period moving rapidly to become what its critics would call 'the dismal science'."

Thomas Malthus, as this website informs

".. was a political economist who was concerned about, what he saw as, the decline of living conditions in nineteenth century England. He blamed this decline on three elements: The overproduction of young; the inability of resources to keep up with the rising human population; and the irresponsibility of the lower classes."

Two centuries since then, mankind managed to multiply its food resources beyond the dreams of Thomas Malthus and his contemporaries, but we are still left with his legacy, the irresponsible lower classes along with what another of his disciples inspired by him, left us with. Charles Darwin and his survival of the fittest theory, for which by putting aside any scientific value in its biological sense, turned humanity into an arena where it is legitimate to go about and kill or be killed, a drawn out travesty to justify capitalism.

Tractable and intractable computations human individuals are faced with.

In an uncanny manifestation, as I would call it for the lack of a better word available in my mind right now, sources unravelled before me, without a consciously prepared plan, only to lead me, almost effortlessly, to a sought after solution of a nagging problem. One seemingly intractable problem, in personal terms, on the grounds of the unyielding amount of operations in the process of arriving to a satisfactory solution.

Similar with what I mentioned in that post, the anticipation built-in in the firing sequences of neuron groups, with the additional element of intractable problems. Does that go beyond a simple immediate future anticipation? To processes connected to situations where ever ready, constantly on standby, lingering bifurcations sweep away the thoughts toward new, concluding attractors or falling under the influence of powerful trajectories of all-surpassing, universal attractors? As for example the attractor-notion of knowledge already there, awaiting your mind's arrival? Severely cutting down the number, by-passing unyielding operations? Arriving to a solution sooner?

Computational problems can be "efficiently solvable" or "tractable" or "intractable" as they would require a huge amount of operations, at least n^1000000 (n to the power of 1 million), as it is mentioned here,

"P is often taken to be the class of computational problems which are "efficiently solvable" or "tractable", although there are potentially larger classes that are also considered tractable such as RP and BPP. Also, there exist problems in P which are intractable in practical terms; for example, some require at least n^1000000 (n to the power of 1 million) operations."

These are the kind of problems human individuals face in life situations as it is mentioned in "Fractal Neurodynamics and Quantum Chaos: Resolving the Mind-Brain Paradox Through Novel Biophysics", in Chapter 6.1, The Computational Intractability of Survival in the Open Environment.,

"The principal task of the brain is to compute the survival strategy most likely to enable the organism to evade death and produce viable offspring. A computational problem is intractable if the number of computational steps required grows super-exponentially with the complexity of the problem. The travelling salesman problem (Bern & Graham 1989), finding the shortest route round n cities illustrates this, growing with (n-1)! A problem may also be formally undecidable in the sense of Gödel. Many adaptation-survival problems in the open environment share the characteristics of intractable problems, because each strategy tends to be matched by a competing strategy in another organism and the number of options rapidly exponentiates. An active organism must also complete a processing task within 0.1-1 second if it is going to have survival utility, regardless of its complexity. Such arguments make it clear why parallel processing is an integral feature of vertebrate nervous systems."

In each step in our modern lives, though no different in real terms with the lives of human individuals in any era in human history for that matter, we are required to make decisions about effectively intractable problems. The human individual has largely managed to tackle successfully the computational problems associated with survival, and it did so by utilising our brain's chaotic potential. Thanks to our innate ability to engage and utilise chaotic processes led to the establishment of numerous attractors, providing solutions for many problems. Attractors manifesting in numerous forms and shapes, tangible and intangible, matter-transforming or social and mental constructions, tools in the constant grappling with nature, while at the same time continuously transforming into new shapes and forms.

Visualising fractal dynamics

Fractal dynamics, the communication between the macroscales with the microscales. In the 'Mind and Brain, Chaos and Quantum Mechanics' paper, page 19, I read:

"The dynamics of many important biological molecules may be fractal in this way, which involves the linkage between a variety of quantum excitations of differing energies, and feedback between tertiary structures and active sites."

Communication of higher scales with lower scales. In this example the higher scales being the tertiary structures and active sites of biological molecules and lower scales being the quantum states of the atoms of the biological molecules.

Quantum excitations of differing energies of the atoms of the biological molecules linked with the tertiary structures and active sites of the biological molecules. As the active sites of the biological molecules define the function(s) of the biological molecule and by that the function(s) of the cell organelles it is part of, the higher level of organised matter.

Different levels of matter organisation, fractally connected.

"... structures behaving, not only in a geometrical sense, but also dynamically ..."

Fractal dynamics surpass in breadth and depth, vertically and horizontally, all aspects of human activity among many other aspects of reality. And in each level of organised matter established attractors, a range of stable states as they are defined by optimally maximised local variables and parametres. Such attractors in turn by virtue of the fractal connections determine the establishment of attractors in higher levels as the local variables exert an influence on global variables and parametres.

And since the fractal dynamics provide a two-way path and local variables are influenced by global variables in turn, it leads to the establishment of new attractors by chaotic bifurcations.

If however global variables induced adjustment of local variables and parametres requires tweaking of variables and parametres outside the limits permitted by the local system, the local system will cease to be.

Individuals assume arbitrary standpoints to deal with reality.

On page 45, of "Chaos, Dynamics and Fractals, an algorithmic approach to deterministic chaos", by J. L. McCauley, I read:

"By successive stages of simplification (by making approximations that are abstractly equivalent to discarding information), Lorenz finally constructed a model that he could analyze, and found deterministic chaos ..."

and in the footnote it further elucidates that process.

"Here we must admit that the word 'discard' is not quite appropriate, because we do not have such detailed information to begin with. If one had all the appropriate information (solutions for different initial conditions), one could start by systematically ignoring large amounts of detailed information about complicated trajectories."

So it is not only, that we do not have all the information that there is, meaning that the information already exists, despite our inability to witness it and take it into consideration, but on top of it, even if we had the information, we would still systematically ignore it, as we can not deal with complicated trajectories. Our intellect is not equipped, our intellectual capacity is not enough, to deal with all the information that there is.

This statement freely associated in my mind, generalised, epitomises the standpoints all human individuals assume when it comes to deal with reality.

Since knowledge is limited this leads individuals to make arbitrary choices and based on these choices to define their stance. The objective approach is not enough, it can not unravel reality. The only thing achieved or achieves is to construct structure upon structure, that primarily exists in the minds of individuals who invented them in the first place. As it becomes more elaborate it grows bigger and bigger, a labyrinthine construct that serves little purpose in assisting the majority of individuals to achieve meaning.

Its goal being, to become easily accessible, within reach of more and more individuals, avoiding the constant introduction of obscure concepts, with tiny traces of meaning, unable to confer clarity, prone to multiple interpretations, to as many as the individuals it is exposed to. It becomes the goal not the means. Therefore becomes detached from reality and assumes an essence of its own.

A human construct, on a par to any elaborate architectural construction therefore described as elegant or other similar decorative definition. Its goal should have been to become accessible to more and more individuals by curtailing the plethora of concepts used, instead of lost in the relentless pursuit of inventing more stringent rules and rigorous procedures, to devote as much time towards simplifying the technical language used, by the use of widely accepted, firm footed concepts. Take an extra effort to present models to be, within reach of ever wider audiences, engage that audience in the reality search, increase the lines of attack as they will be provided by the plurality of approach, as each one engaged will contribute.

Propagate the subjective to conquer the objective.

Plasma, a glimpse of reality's origins?

There is more to plasmas than I thought in the beginning. The reports from researchers writhe with a vocabulary that if it doesn't bring into mind, chaos, then it should be the most unheard off, sheer coincidence ever, anyone has come across.

It reminds me of Juliann Jaynes, as he mentions about the overly use of metaphors of physical reality when describing the contents of consciousness. The human mind in order to define its conscious part, employ words borrowed from words used to define physical space. A connection between mind space and physical space. An uncanny resemblance. Likewise by elucidating the attributes of plasma the vocabulary used bears an uncanny resemblance with properties attributed to chaos.

On the abstract for the book "New Vistas in Dusty Plasmas", I read:

"The 4th ICPDP conference was dedicated to the physics of dusty or complex plasmas. It focused on the phenomena related to the interaction of these particles with plasmas, such as transport processes, Coulomb crystal and liquid formation, void formation, self excited instabilities, wave propagation, nonlinear phenomena and also the nucleation and growth of dust particles in these plasmas."

The interaction of dust particles, (reminds someone of the role of dust particles on the onset of rain in clouds), that bring about plasma transformations to the Coulomb crystal, liquid, void; rearrangements of entities from the plasma phase to other formations, the high motility of the plasma entities halted to be frozen into solid, liquid or void(?)(annihilation?). The instantiation of stable objects? And the reference to dust, minute particles that interfere in a chaotic manner with simple processes within the plasma. Connected with the self-excited instabilities, wave propagation, nonlinear phenomena? And again the nucleation and growth of dust particles another route for objects to exist? Taking in account that the plasma state precedes the formation of stars, planets, and other heavenly bodies, would that nucleation and growth be the way these celestial bodies formed?

"We have experimentally characterized the breathing mode oscillation of a strongly-coupled, dusty plasma disk. Steady-state oscillations are excited by sinusoidally modulating the plasma density, creating a single-frequency, in-plane driving force. Resonance curves agree well with damped harmonic oscillator theory. A response at the second harmonic is observed and found to increase with the square of the driving force, indicating a quadratic nonlinearity."

A much needed clarification of resonance and harmonics concepts found in the "Physics classroom tutorials".

"A standing wave pattern is a vibrational pattern created within a medium when the vibrational frequency of the source causes reflected waves from one end of the medium to interfere with incident waves from the source. This interference occurs in such a manner that specific points along the medium appear to be standing still. Because the observed wave pattern is characterized by points which appear to be standing still, the pattern is often called a standing wave pattern. Such patterns are only created within the medium at specific frequencies of vibration. These frequencies are known as harmonic frequencies, or merely harmonics. At any frequency other than a harmonic frequency, the interference of reflected and incident waves leads to a resulting disturbance of the medium which is irregular and non-repeating."

So the harmonic frequencies are specific frequencies of vibration emanating by a source that produce a standing wave pattern within a medium. A vibrational pattern within the medium where waves reflected at one end interfere with continually incoming waves induced by the source, in such a manner that specific points along the medium appear to be standing still. At any frequency other than a harmonic frequency the interference leads to an irregular and non-repeating wave pattern.

Would that have any relevance to chaotic parts of a system, the irregular and non-repeating? Which would entail interference and waves in analogy to the reflected and incident waves described above. And what are the ends on which the waves reflect? Constraining points? A system's boundaries? Most chaotic systems are driven by recursive processes, continuously repeated. Are the ends of each recursive step, the ends that bounce and reflect back the first batch of waves to then interfere with the second batch of waves, the waves induced by the next step in the recursive process? The recursive process being the source of the waves induced? And depending on whether the emanating source inducing the waves vibrate at the specific frequencies, the harmonic frequencies, then produce standing waves? Points along the medium that appear to stand still. Order? Whereas, if not in harmonic frequencies, then the irregular pattern in the vibrations. Chaos?

Does that imply packets? Chaotically developed processes, the recursive steps, the packets? Quanta? Quantisation of chaotic phenomena? Quantisation of processes?

An approach to concepts

In defining what concept is, the human intellect took and takes, many approaches most of them driven, I would dare say, by some kind of ulterior motives, or hidden agenda. Individuals applying biased views of looking at things, struggled to convince others, experts and the public, about the validity of their arguments drawn into embittered battles making it a personal quest but not a quest for truth.

The end result is, the meaning of concept remains largely obscure and its usefulness in the human endeavour, in either personal or collective level, to make sense of the world ambiguous. An obstacle that hinders natural growth.

Among the definitions present up to date, one that bears significance and assists human mind in search for answers in a personal and collective level is the approach put forward by William James

"In order to understand the meaning of the concept and to discuss its importance, a concept may be tested by asking, "What sensible difference to anybody will its truth make?" There is only one criterion of a concept's meaning and only one test of its truth. That criterion or test is its consequences for human behavior."

Looking at human behaviour in its broad sense including the efforts for elucidating the rules and mechanisms that underpin reality, making sense of what is going on around us, we acquire meaning by using concepts, concepts taken from the viewpoint of what sensible difference its use will make while the person is in the process of probing reality, what would the consequences be in altering his understanding about the process probed.

As meaning lies in people, meaning conveyed by concepts, the concepts used in the process to understand the underlying reasons of a phenomenon probed, we achieve meaning and understand the phenomenon as long as we have embraced the full extent of the concept's implications as these are expressed by the concept's properties, extensions, and other particular qualities contained herein.

Each time a concept is enriched by the addition of extra qualities, whatever that may be, a discovery process itself, it will result in a re-arrangement of our understanding, our very own conceptual arsenal increase, adding extra dimensions and improving our sense of the world.

Imperfect kinds of consciousness

Kinds of consciousness

"I am for a moment transported into a different kind of consciousness"

What thoughts associate without bias the reading of that statement? Different individuals each possessing their own kind of consciousness. How can that be possible? Is consciousness not shared alike by all people? Can it not be equally possessed by everybody?
The statement above was quoted by an English traveler and described how he felt whenever he recalled the description of a steamship given by a South Sea Islander native. The South Sea Islander's concept of the steamship was different, as he surmised by his steamship description, from the English traveler's concept.
Concepts then determine consciousness. Concepts represent knowledge structures stored in our memory banks. They are the information which we learn in the course of our lives. The breadth and depth and the kind of concepts learned varies between individuals. Acquired concepts determine an individual's consciousness. Consciousness then can be seen as a deeply personal asset of an individual.

The broader and deeper the concepts, the individual possesses, the more encompassing its consciousness will be.

The essence of the entropy concept. What comes out, freely associated, by this attempt to clarify the energy carried by a system?

As the quest started it addressed a real problem. Energy in a system that can do work, therefore 'useful' and energy that can not do work and as such 'useless' energy. And from that need, the pursuit of finding the ultimate cause of energy's duplicity in occurrence, led to the quantum level, to deal with the microscopic configurations that give rise to the observed macroscopic description of a system. The field is vast, the feat impossible but the tenacious human never gives up.

Up on the task, digs deeper and deeper into the fabric of reality. And in the process invents new concepts, new ideas to explore deeper, in process and in structure. The words in its conceptual arsenal continuously increase, methodically develop to describe and define ever smaller 'nooks and crannies' in the revealed micro-structures and every minuscule detail in subtle, barely perceptible micro-processes.

The discovery process goes on relentless. A lot of concepts and ideas are abandoned as the theories are constantly tested and new sharper concepts replace older ones. The whole process make it possible for the later generations to start their lives on a firmer footing in this world.

Issues raised in dealing with complexities

Human individuals, despite their achievements collectively, as single entities have a limited capacity to discern the complexities that phenomena impose upon them. This limits their ability to fully comprehend the flow of events that take place around them and affect their ability to select the rules that explain the phenomena. However, this can be twisted around and used to give credence to the necessity and tendency of humans to act collectively, as this is the way that they can achieve more. Their full potential is realised only when they act together, complement each other and reach heights of achievement otherwise impossible. By working together it made and continues to make possible in breaking down many of the complexities encountered, as the current body of knowledge accumulated bear witness.

Nevertheless the fact remains and the limitations of the human individual's limited processing capacity must be addressed. The whole point is raised because of the enormous amount of information that has to be dealt with in discerning complexities. Here, it is tempting to draw upon the knowledge on the computing time, ideal supercomputers require to process particular problems, and liken humanity to a supercomputer engaged in deciphering the whole range of processes that underpin reality. Referring to a single individual dealing with the complexities in his immediate environment, it would consume an inordinate amount of time, and time is, very much indeed, in short supply, due to the constraints imposed by our life spans, and exacerbated by the amount of time and resources consumed to deal with concerns of survival, as they appear in various manifestations and identify themselves as pressing, therefore primary, needs.

Despite our limitations we are required to select, which we do that every time and have being doing constantly in the past. As a result of the options selected ourselves, our communities, societies and civilizations are in their present state of development. The selection process used, reflects our limited processing capacity. Since we can not deal with the amount of information that complexities present, as the full extent of possibilities eludes us, we adopt leads and information that fit a model of emergence that past experience incited upon us and abandon the possibilities and attached information, that do not fit the adopted model. This only gives a partial view of reality which we constantly strive to extend.

Riots and revolutions: drawing the similarities between fluid convection and ideas thought in members of evolving social systems

There are important similarities between fluid convection and the spread of ideas or other constructs in members of social systems and in particular their nonlinearities, the situations with the disproportionate cause and effect relationships. The common factor in both phenomena is the collective nature of their proliferation. Fluid convection is a property of groups of particles which en masse flow in the surrounding medium to dissipate the heat that caused their motion in the first place and in the proliferation of ideas as these are carried by groups of members in social systems, flow within the system and dissipate either as revolutions, riots, social unrest or simple ordered social change. It is nonlinear as the energy carried is not proportional to each of the parts, the particles that make up the fluid medium. The greater the heat energy carried, the more the flow is turbulent, as it tends to dissipate the energy to its external environment. Turbulence seen as chaotic flow, an intermediate step toward its course to a final presumably ordered state.

In fluid convection the determining factor of its motion, is the temperature difference between the higher and the lower energy level. Likewise in social systems, the determining factor in the proliferation of ideas thought and acts committed in an evolving social structure, is their members' status level difference between the higher and the lower thresholds. If the difference is small, the system remains still for both the cell fluid and the evolving social structure. Heat moves toward the lower threshold, in terms of energy content, by conduction without overcoming the natural tendency of the fluid to remain at rest. Inertia at work, the tendency of a body at rest, to remain at rest or the disposition of members in a social structure to remain inactive or inert. Furthermore, the system is stable. Any random motions that might occur will tend to die out, returning the system to its steady state.

If the difference is large, a new kind of behaviour develops. With regards to the fluid, as it becomes hot, it expands. As it expands, it becomes less dense. As it becomes less dense, it becomes lighter, enough to overcome its inertia and it pushes toward the lower energy level. In a similar manner it can be imagined that a large difference between the higher and the lower thresholds in status levels, instigates motion expressed by ideas thought and acts committed by the members of an evolving social structure that overcome their inertia, toward the realisation of goals connected to status level improvement.

If for fluid convection the defining parameters are the heat content and the inherent inertia, in similar fashion for evolving social structures the defining parameters should be the status improving potential and the social inertia, the resistance to change presented by members of social groups.

Use of emergent (desired or not) states to define agents in a system?

A system, as is defined by agents and rule-based agent interactions in endless repetition, will accumulate necessary complexity for selection processes to dictate emergent states. Systems that are based on human individuals as agents, it is very likely and quite desirable to intervene towards the emergence of specific states. As emergence is a process that do not hold to prescription such an intervention towards specific states should, if it is to succeed, direct its intervening action towards the rules that govern agent interactions. One such system that specific emergent states are highly sought after are educational establishments, schools in particular. Does a desired emergent state would be expected to define the agents ia school system? What are the agents of a school system? The case goes; did she take into account my contribution to the school educational product, this day? No. Why not? It is not in her job specification. This is not what she is expected to do. She is required to administer not to judge, educational value. Administration works by virtue of checklists. No room for individual reflection. There are specific sessions for that, sessions for reflections. For all other occasions there are the checklists.
So there is a field of expertise where each one, let us say "excels" in the field. But if an administrator excels in its field, would that necessarily mean the service the work deals with, namely educational value, does actually benefit from this? Why should it benefit? The field excelled is administrative. Administration of its personnel. One of it is choosing the personnel suitable for the job. So would that be significant to the educational value product? It should be as the good teacher would increase educational value. The argument continues shortly ...

Why should we think she is more important than any of the teachers in the school? No she is not. The main product of the school is educational value and this does not happen in her office.It happens in the classrooms. She is dealing with the bureaucratic aspect of the school system and she should never assume status not conferred by the very nature of the product offered by the establishment administered. Namely educational value. She should feel being the servant in the whole process and not the master.

And along to the structure of the system of the school. She is dealing with the linear aspect of the processes that take place in the environment of the school, the system of the school. So, can we continue with the thought about the role of administration in establishments? As the keepers of the current state of an establishment, by virtue of the linear processes they are involved into. That brings the case of remuneration. Would that justify high earnings? Why administration should be regarded as of paramount importance, unassailable from criticism, to a great extent. Is it, notions of self-importance develop disproportionate to the specifications? To be resolved .... The non-linear and the one, we can accept as by definition, which produces the highest value in the educational product it is the one that takes place in the classroom, where the pupil engages itself in the processes that define and the same is defined by the system of school. Oops, self-reference! Self-referential! What is the significance of that observation? Is it significant or is it circumstantial? The system and its state space.

Should we look for agents in a system according to the content of the emerging states. Emergence as defined as a result of evolutionary processes. Evolutionary processes defined by development in the states achieved, by mainly chaotic processes. Chaos as the creator of information. The evolution of the chaos developed states, pertain to the chaos-created states being checked against the conditions and features of the system, for a best fit state resolution, John Holland at work. The emergent state is different from a desired state, a goal directed therefore highly expected. However that does not dismiss the want of the emergent states according to a wish list. A wish list that directs emergent states toward desired states. The whole process is a result of intervention actions directed at specific points in the process space. Organisation of the system should have space and time elements. Or more likely assume fractal qualities? Fractal dimensions?

Would the emergent state, desired or not, define in the system, its rules and its agents? Is it right to assume an emergent state-directed definition of agents? Taken in account the emergent product, let us say for schools the emergent product being, the vaguely defined educational value. How would educational value be defined? Learning objectives. Pupils own knowledge structures developing. Not only. Teachers as well, their knowledge structures develop too. Knowledge structures, in both cases, are different. What is the same is the process of development. The development from one state to another. Desirability determines this development as improvement. An improved knowledge structure. An improved knowledge state for both pupils and teachers.

So, the tendency of improving the knowledge structure states should define the rules in the system. Should be used as guidelines when determining the organisation of establishments that deal with this product. And is should continue ...

Chaos related musings

So the chaos situation or state refers to the behaviour of systems and that behaviour depends so sensitively to the system's precise initial conditions, and because of that, it is unpredictable and appears as a random process, but it is deterministic, approached from a mathematical viewpoint. Additionally, should point out, that even a very small perturbation can have a very large effect on a system. The system is geared up, amplifying minute changes in values of parameters and variables connected with its initial conditions, to very large values in other dependent variables and parameters in the system, which give rise to the intense behaviour of chaos. The amplification is exponential and it appears as a result of nonlinear functions between the variables involved in a system.

P. S. de Laplace's statement, "We ought then to regard the present state of the universe as the effect of its preceding state and the cause of its succeeding state", brings out clearly the situations governing all chaotic systems the cause and effect relationships and the importance of pre-existing conditions in determining its current state.

In general deterministic systems can evolve to unpredictably random behaviour, chaotic behaviour. Though, actually, it appears to us as random, primarily as a limitation of our sensory apparatus, as well as, of the limitations of our cognitive abilities. So despite our inability to discern the determinism of the chaotic processes, deterministic chaos exists and is responsible for complexity and finally emergence.

Misplaced character of deterministic

Is it correct to regard determinism as defunct, when it comes to consider the nature's workings? It is suggested, that human evolution is not deterministic, by invoking the argument that the laws of evolution should have built into them anticipation of all events possible. One of many assumptions possible stemming from our inability to discern the underlying causes of changes in nature. The laws of evolution do not require to have all outomes possible, the multitude of all configurations of states possible, to account for state configurations, with far removed possibilities to be adapted by a system. It is more economical to account for states with a greater chance of being adapted, an attracting range of state configurations, a chaotic attractor, as deterministic chaos dictates. And this is the anticipation built, in the laws of evolution.

The anticipation, so described, can be similar to the anticipation John Holland invokes, for neural networks. "Elements in a stimulus sequence not yet seen, are anticipated by the corresponding extrasensitive assemblies". Stimulus sequences are of similar nature, as of John Holland's reverberating cell assemblies. What about the corresponding extrasensitive assemblies? What would their equivalent be, in human evolution? Certainly, these should be the procceses most prevalent at any time in the course of human evolution. The ones, that once they have been selected, multiplied, became dominant, reinforced in the agent populations. Reinforced processes,(practises customs), become extrasensitive, by virtue of their sheer numbers in the agent populations, for the system. They provide the response to presented stimulus sequences and determine the succeding states. Anticipation is inherent, as the chaotic attractor set of states, is an attracrting set and even if it is preturbed off the attractor, it eventually ends up in the set.

Deliberating on chaos lever points

     It appears that the application of a small force will give the anticipated larger effect only if it is applied on the conditions that are identified as being initial. By referring to initial conditions, in a sense we are referring to the conditions that gave rise to the whole of the system, its foundations. On this premise it is no wonder that any slight shift in its fundamental principles will certainly cause an extensive shake-up of the system, an earthquake, as it would ripple through its entire structure, from its very foundations to the top echelons of its structure, producing a much greater effect compared to the size of the slight shift of a parameter that constitutes initial condition of the system.

      Output parameters would therefore propagate exponentially to input; in a nonlinear fashion output marching in tens, hundreds or thousands of steps for every step trodden by input in contrast to linear propagation where input is matched step by step by output in its progress.

Establishing the emergence framework with a checklist to identify its occurence in individual cases

Emergence is pervasive in world phenomena and we should have a checklist to recognise and identify the relevant features. This bulleted list is an attempt to recognise such phenomena drawn out of the understanding built from a variety of disciplines.

Verb usage in description of events reveal the dynamic processes involved

Verb usage, in oral or textual description of events, in any level or context, reveal the processes involved and the corresponding value-changes in the variables that trigger these processes. By focusing on the process described by the verb we recognise the variables and their value changes.

The value change might be an increase or decrease or alternations between discrete component arrangements in our environment. Our sense organs are built to detect, increase/decrease in variable values and changes from state to state.

The increase of complexity in our environment, is matched by an ever increasing neural network of subtle composite detection methods and is reflected in language structure by the introduction of verbs describing ever more complex processes.

We perceive the world around us by value changes, we accumulate knowledge about the world based on changing variables, and our language structure reflects our environment detection mode. Should there not then be, a change of scope in how language is taught?

Verbs define processes

The world that surrounds us is perpetually in motion, costantly changing. Myriad of processes unfold, develop, interact, act from an agent perspective or being acted upon by other agents. They flow from subjects to objects and are responsible for the changes we observe or participate.

     Every process unfolds as a result of a change in value of a variable, dependent or independent, characteristic in a particular environment, the change in the initial conditions trigger other processes and induce further change.

     In our every day speech, in language, we use verbs to describe the processes that happen around us. Every sentence we construct, we utter, is about the value-change triggered processes, developing in our immediacy.

     A temperature rise in the room brings about responses like "I am boiling here", "Turn off the heating" etc, the verbs in the sentences describe the processes taking place, the effects incurred upon us or upon the environment, the source, the direction, the potency of the change involved. We have thousands of verbs to record myriad processes in a multitude of contexts.

      Our use of language bears witness of the effects incurred by the multitude of changing variables present in our environment and responded since its inception by inventing verbs to describe the processes triggered.

Applying deterministic chaos in the study of historical events.

History is the history of man; it is the sum of ideas thought by man and the acts committed by man. History is a human brainchild and is manipulated by the human mind. Historicism and Marxism attempt to describe history with the determining and deterministic rules of classical physics, and claim that human history follows a course towards a determinate end.

But historical events, as noted by F.Cramer, always seem to behave in violation to the rules, they are describable by neither simple nor complex models. There are no historical laws, but at most rules of probability, human history follows a seemingly irrational course. Jurgen Habermass and Niklas Luhmann, used the concept of complexity to explain social (or historical) structures: “Systems maintain and form islands of lower complexity within their stabilising boundaries...” compared to the largely chaotic surrounding world. History is largely chaotic and its description is made possible by observing isolated systems. Only isolated islands of lower complexity are accessible to description.

Karl Popper, in his critique of historicism; argued that as the growth of human knowledge is the causal factor in the evolution of human history, and since “no society can predict, scientifically, its own future states of knowledge”, it follows that there can be no predictive science of human history. The course history takes is indeterminate.

Sociologist Niklas Luhmann said: social systems are self-referential systems based on meaningful communication. They use communication to constitute and interconnect the events (actions) which build up the systems. Society is the encompassing social system which includes all communications and constitutes meaningful horizons for further communications.

Modern society knows no boundaries, it is a world society. Its communicative network spreads all over the globe. "It provides one world for one system; and it integrates all world horizons as one communicative system. Its evolution started with the advent of the industrial state in the 18th century, closely intertwined with the technological progress of communication processes, the evolved social structures seen as historical structures.

But what about deterministic chaos and chaotic attractors. Can these be used to provide a framework to explain historical events? Deterministic chaos, refers in the world of dynamics to the generation of random, unpredictable behavior from a simple, but nonlinear rule. The rule has no "noise", randomness, or probabilities built in. Instead, through the rule's repeated application the long-term behavior becomes quite complicated. In this sense, the unpredictability "emerges" over time.

This rule is the meaningful communication that social systems are based on. Communication is used to establish relations between the members or groups of members of social systems and proliferate the ideas thought by man and guide the acts committed by man therefore give rise to history. As a rule is simple and is repeated endlessly and it is not linear, as meaningful communication is conveyed as a constituent, property, of groups of members and not of the individual members therefore is not proportional, it is nonlinear. Historical events are influenced by ideas thought and acts committed collectively.

But what about chaotic attractors? The chaotic attractor is referred to as a set of states in a system's state space with very special properties. The relations attained by means of communication, confer status to members, both as individuals and as members of groups in the social system. The whole spectrum of status achieved by the members in a social system constitute the system’s state space. Each member naturally tends to improve its status individually or collectively, according to the prevailing circumstances of its immediate and/or wider environment. Each member’s status improvement had to be acceptable both by the member and the other members as well. By consensus this culminated to the right of each member to be and act as a free individual. The set of states describing status incorporated in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is the chaotic attractor. Throughout history social systems members continual efforts to improve their status, determined relations, affected communication, moulded ideas thought by man, guided acts committed by man, led historical events.

The special properties of a chaotic attractor are: First, the set of states of a chaotic attractor, is an attracting set. So that the system, starting with its initial condition in the appropriate basin, eventually ends up in the set. Even if the system is perturbed off the attractor, it eventually returns. Spanning history for historical events that give evidence to that property one can easily think of the relatively recent collapse of the Soviet Union. Second, and most important, once the system is on the attractor nearby states diverge from each other exponentially fast. Due to this second property, small amounts of noise are amplified. Once sufficiently amplified the noise determines the system’s large scale behaviour and the system is then unpredictable. Observing the historical events associated with the French Revolution, the later deterioration in its aims would give credence to this property.

Foremost, of all, is that social systems, even if temporarily thrown off their course, return eventually to the chaotic attractor set, the human rights set. Human rights is the driving force that shaped up modern society.

Volume of four-dimensional objects.

There are two matters I would like to deal with this morning.

One is “Clifford Pickover`s question” about hyperspace and the other is 1820`s events in Turkey. The first job involves the elucidation of the relationship between dimensionality and volume and the second the impact of events that took place in Europe in the first half of 19th century and their determining effect in the fate of the nascent Greek state.

Since I am undecided, I will channel my thoughts on either of these questions, in confrontation, till either of these questions find a stronger hook to already existing thoughts, mental structures stored in my brain, schema already in place, drawing my thought resources on it and therefore dominate over the other.

I will go through the paragraphs in Clifford Pickover`s book relevant to the question. Let us go in a search of Hinton cubes. I found the Banubula blogspot where a definition of the four-dimensional object, tesseract, is thought provoking:

“A Tesseract is a four-dimensional object which completes the following analogy: Square (2-d) is to Cube (3-d) as Cube (3-d) is to Tesseract (4-d).”

So to take up the challenge, trying to visualize the relationship, the square is one of the 6, obviously flat, sides of the cube, and the cube is one the 6 sides of the tesseract. Each of the sides of the tesseract is a cube analogous to each side of a cube is a square. As the sides of the cube are two-dimensional, the sides of a tesseract are three-dimensional and this analogy can be carried over into the n+1 dimensionality. In the 5th dimension, to a “penteract” with four-dimensional sides and so on.

Deciding about the nature of the sides, it is followed by resolving the space bound by the sides; in cubes, tesseracts and so on. In a cube the six square sides bound space which can be measured in units of volume calculated by multiplying the surface of one side times the height of one of its adjacent sides. E.g. 1cm2 x 1 cm = 1 cm3. In a tesseract the space bound by the six cubes should, according to the rule, be calculated by multiplying its equivalent components, the cubes, in a similar analogy. And these are the volume of one of its sides times the surface of one of its adjacent sides. E.g. 1 cm3 x 1 cm2 = 1 cm5 . What is the significance of this calculation? What is the volume that is measured in cm5 units? Let carry on the calculation further for a “penteract”. This should be 1 cm5 x 1 cm3 = 1 cm8 and further 1 cm8 x 1 cm5 = 1 cm13. Can volume with units other than cm3 exist?

The classic tesseract design accommodate for the sides only but not for the space bound by the sides. The space that is enclosed by the six cube sides. The quantity of volume, quite carefully is defined, as in this website, as “the measure of space taken up by a three-dimensional object”. So the use of the word volume for four-dimensional objects and with cm5 units raises questions.

What is the connection of volume cm5 with volume cm3? Is it possible to convert cm5 to cm3?

Let us see how it looks in the browser. Let, as well, enter body in this post. I am going to write about, what I have been thinking these past few days. I am currently reading a book, of Europe's history from 1815 to 1850. The reason I started to read this book, is to get a background idea of the situation prevailing in Europe, that led to the events that took place in Asia Minor, beginning of 20th century. As Turkey, emerged defeated, in her involvement in the first world war, managed to re-organise herself and pursued towards the establishement of a Turkish national identity, albeit controversial overly criticized and widely condemned methods. She could not do so, without taking advantage of the squabbles between the, then, powers in the european scene, triggered by their efforts to gain control over the oil-rich regions of Middle East. The powers (France, Italy, Britain, Russia, USA) employed, each on their own accord, policies which will strengthen in the future their influence in the region. Their commercial interests prevailed and Turkey, the not so long ago enemy, was seen as a potential friend and therefore supported. Turkey's struggle to survive as a nation, meant that she had to promote its turkishness and musulman religion. Turkish politicians, have long realised that turkish identity could not survive within a multicultural society, because the other members in the multicultural society were more powerful than the turks themselves. A pursuit of a multicultural society would have as a result the loss of the turkish national identity. This stems as well from the historical background of the modern turks themselves. All through the eons of turkish rule, there are numerous references of christians forcibly turkified. These turkifications, the extent of which might not be possible to estimate, would have been a problem within the bounds of a multicultural society, as it would have been impossible to maintain a national turkish identity. Even after the forced expulsion of all the Asia Minor inhabitants, who would not identify themselves as musulman Turks, it would have been impossible if it wasn't of the measures of Kemal Atatourk which institutionalise turkishness and forbade its subjects to speak or act against it. This is matter which is carried in our present era. .....to be continued later.
